Questions people ask

How does this work?

Tell me what your business does. I build the site, then send you a private link and a passcode so you can look at the finished thing. If you like it, you pay and I put it on your domain. If you do not, you owe nothing and we shake hands.

What does it cost?

Most small business sites are $1,500 flat to build. Keeping it online is $500 a year on top of that, so a typical site is $2,000 to go live and $500 a year after. Bigger sites — a lot of pages, staff profiles, a product catalogue — run up to $4,000. Getting your Google Business Profile and analytics set up properly is a $500 add-on. You get every number before I start and none of them change.

Do I have to pay every month?

No. Keeping your site online is billed once a year, not monthly — $500, starting when the site goes live. That covers hosting, the security certificate, backups and small text and photo changes. If you would rather pay $50 a month you can, but most people take the yearly bill and forget about it. And if you are on Outrank or Outgrow, you do not pay it at all — keeping the site online is already part of those. The only genuinely monthly thing I sell is Outrank, and that is about winning searches you are not winning today, not about keeping the lights on.

What does the $500 a year actually cover?

Hosting, the security certificate, backups, and small text and photo changes — a phone number, a set of hours, a price, a new photo. Send them however you like and they are usually live the same or next business day. It starts the day your site goes live and renews yearly — unless you are on Outrank or Outgrow, in which case it is included and never billed. What it does not cover is new pages or new features; those get quoted separately so the yearly number never moves without you agreeing to it first.

What is Outrank actually doing for me?

Every month I check three to five competing businesses you and I name together: where they rank for the searches your customers actually type, and whether ChatGPT and Google AI answers point at them instead of you. Then I do the work on your site to close whatever the check found — new pages, better copy, structured data — and keep your Google Business Profile current. You get one page at the end of the month showing what moved — that is the only thing you have to read, and there is nothing to log into or approve. It is $500 a month, the first month is free, and you can stop any month.

What if I want you to run the whole thing?

That is Outgrow, at $1,500 a month. It is everything Outrank does plus the parts of getting found that are not your website — your Google Business Profile run properly, the directories and listings the AI assistants read, and Google Ads managed alongside the unpaid results when you want them. One monthly fee for the whole online side instead of a list of things to coordinate. Most businesses do not need it; the ones that do are usually already spending more than that on advertising that nobody is watching.

Can you promise I will rank first?

No, and be careful with anyone who does — nobody controls Google. What I promise is that the work happens every month, that you can see exactly what it was, and that we are measuring against real competitors rather than terms nobody searches. If it is not paying for itself after a few months, tell me and stop.

Do I need the Google set-up?

If your business already shows up in Google Maps with the right hours and categories, and you already have analytics, no. Most small businesses do not — the profile is unclaimed, or it was filled in once in 2019 and has the wrong hours. That panel beside the search results is often the first thing a customer sees, so it is worth getting right.

What happens to my domain and my email?

Your domain stays registered in your name — I only change the setting that points it at the new site. Your email is untouched and keeps working through the switch. Every address on your old site is redirected to the matching new page, so nothing you have built up in Google is lost.

I only have a Facebook page. Is that a problem?

It is the most common situation around here, and it is the reason to build a site. A Facebook page does not show up in Google the way a website does, and when someone asks their phone or an AI assistant for a local recommendation, Facebook pages usually are not part of the answer.

How long does it take?

About a week for most sites once I have your information. Going live afterwards takes a few minutes, as soon as your domain settings are updated.

How do changes work after the site is live?

Tell me what you want changed, in plain English — an email or a text is fine. Small text and photo changes are covered by upkeep and are usually live the same or next business day. Every change also re-runs the site’s accessibility and search checks before it ships, so an update never quietly breaks the things that make the site work.
